Itinerary
The journey from Delhi to Sankri covers approximately 450 km and takes around 10–12 hours by road, passing through Dehradun, Mussoorie, and Purola.
Traveling by overnight Tempo Traveller, SUV, or bus, the route offers scenic views of pine forests and river valleys.
Sankri, located at an altitude of ~1,950 meters, serves as the base village for the Kedarkantha trek, with comfortable guesthouse or homestay options available.
It’s advisable to start early, around 5 AM, to ensure arrival before nightfall and enjoy the mountain landscapes along the way.
The trek from Sankri to Juda ka Talab spans approximately 4 km and takes about 4–5 hours, with a gradual ascent through dense pine and oak forests.
Situated at an altitude of around 2,700 meters, the campsite near Juda ka Talab offers a tranquil setting, often featuring snow patches and a frozen lake in winter.
Trekkers should be prepared for cold nights, as temperatures can drop below -5°C.
The trek from Juda ka Talab to Kedarkantha Base covers approximately 4 km and takes 3–4 hours, ascending to an altitude of around 3,400 meters.
The trail is often snow covered and offers breathtaking alpine scenery, with panoramic views of Himalayan peaks such as Swargarohini.
Trekkers will camp at the base, and it’s essential to acclimatize properly and rest well in preparation for the next day’s early morning summit climb.
The summit day involves a 12 km trek (round trip) from the base camp to Kedarkantha peak (3,800 m) and down to Sankri via Hargaon, taking approximately 6–7 hours.
The early morning ascent, starting around 4 AM, rewards trekkers with a stunning sunrise and a 360° view of the snow-clad Himalayan ranges.
After reaching the summit, the descent continues through pine forests to Sankri, where the night is spent in a guesthouse.
A headlamp and windproof layers are essential for the pre-dawn trek.

The journey from Dehradun to Delhi spans approximately 250 km and takes around 6–7 hours by train or road. Both travel options are convenient, offering a comfortable return to the city after completing the trek.
